Snapping Turtles 
 
 
Any permanent body of water can be a home for Common Snapping Turtles. 
 
    Over the  years, countless homeowners have enhanced their residential landscaping to include a pond and fish, others have upgraded their lakeside summer properties. Unfortunately, when they become established Snapping Turtles can create a hazard for these waters and their fish.   
 
    Snapping Turtles do not have teeth, they have powerful jaws and are relatively omnivorous feeding on anything they can get into their mouths. vegetable and animal materials, such as birds, carrion, ducks, fish,  frogs, plants and insects. Bears, Otters and Raccoons prey on Snapping Turtles. 
 
    Unlike most Turtles Snapping Turtles rarely bask. In the northern regions they hibernate in winter and lay eggs in the Spring with hatching occuring late summer and early fall. 
 
CONTROL 
There are no Toxicants or Repellents registered in North America  for Turtle control. 
 
    Snapping  Turtles are readily captured  with  Safeguard Turtle Trap #53800, using red meat or fresh fish  as bait. For maximum effectiveness suspend the baits in the trap, never use hooks to catch Turtles, they swallow the bait whole with the hook and you will probably be unable to remove it,  which could result in its slow death.  Where Turtles are numerous it may be necessary to inspect an rebait the traps two or three times a day.

     The Safeguard Turtle Trap # 53800 has been developed to capture and remove nuisance turtles from residential and commercial landscaping. This unique trap has been designed to be used in multiple applications. 
 
    The trap can be used as a floating trap, capturing multiple nuisance turtles in the water and retaining them so they can be removed from the property. The trap’s innovative design also allows it to be used on dry land in applications where a land trap is needed.
