VIII. Precautions
I. The BORIC Powder Concept
The BORIC Powder concept is simply to treat the Cockroaches’ resting and feeding areas with non-repellent, odorless, longlasting powder. BORIC ACID combines Boric Acid powder with 1% anti-caking agent which allows a smooth flow and prevents caking once the powder is applied. Special attention should be given to plumbing voids common in most Apartments, Hospitals, Nursing Homes and Restaurants. Other areas include under and behind all appliances and cabinets and in cracks and crevices by fixtures, moldings, and cabinets.
II. How it Works
As Cockroaches move through BORIC Powder, powder adheres to their legs and is ingested as they groom themselves. Death will occur within 72 hours. Total extermination in a building may take 2 to 4 weeks depending on the level of infestation and thoroughness of the application.
III. How much BORIC Powder should be used?
Initial application should be about 1 lb per 1000 square feet (454 gms per 100 sq meters). Commercial kitchens may require additional care to obtain effective coverage. “Touch up” applications may require less than the amount used in the initial application.
IV. Retreatment....
After each unit of each building has been treated with BORIC ACID powder, a “touch up” application is required every 6-12 months.
V. Expected Results
Since Cockroaches are slow moving and lethargic after being affected by BORIC ACID, they may become more noticeable for a few days after application Depending on the level of infestation, total extermination may take from 2 to 4 weeks. DO NOT USE RESIDUAL SPRAYS DURING THIS TIME.
VI. Toxicity
BORIC ACID powder has a low toxicity with an LD50 of 3,160 mg/kg. When used according to label instructions, no powder should be visible or accessible to children or pets. Keep the product out of reach of children and never repackage in an unlabelled container.
VII. Method of Application...
A. General Application and Apartments
1. Treat each unit in each building.
2. Do not allow units to be sprayed after treatment. Roaches will hide from sprays, prolonging the exterminating process.
3. No powder should be visible after application.
4. Using a bellows or pump duster, apply BORIC ACID under and behind appliances in kitchens, bathrooms, and utility rooms. (Remove kickplates if possible).
5. Drill ¼ inch holes in the upper part of kick panels beneath cabinets in kitchens and bathrooms (drill holes 1 to 2 feet apart). Dust in these areas.
6. Apply in void areas accessible due to cracks and holes around plumbing in the kitchens,
bathrooms and utility rooms. Escutcheon plates should be pulled back to allow dusting in these areas. (Example, escutcheon plate around shower head can be pulled back.)
7. Any cracks around kitchen fixtures should be dusted.
8. In heavily infested units, electrical wall socket covers can be removed and this area lightly dusted.
9. In high-rise buildings, apply into pits of elevator shafts, trash chutes,, and dumbwaiters.
10. In store rooms, apply along base plates and under pallets.
11. Cockroaches will frequently nest along the perimeter of dropped ceilings in restaurants and commercial buildings. Dust these areas.
12. For local troublesome areas, and for control of accidentally introduced Roaches, use Roach Killer Baits.
B. Ants.
If Ants persist after dusting units, use Ant Killer Baits.
C. New Construction
For buildings under construction, apply along baseplates and in plumbing voids.
VIII. Precautions
1. BORIC Powder is a low toxiciy insecticide. Like other inorganic compounds , it does not easily penetrate the skin, but gloves should be worn during prolonged contact.
2. There are no toxic vapors from BORIC Powder but care should be taken to prevent inhaling dust during application.
3. Cover Fish tanks and remove pets from the treatment rooms.
4. Leave no visible powder after application.
5. Replace and secure any kickplates that are removed and return appliances to their
original locations.
