PERMETHRIN

IUPAC: (3-phenoxybenzyl(IRS)-cis-trans-3-(2,2-dichlorovinyl)-2,2-dimethylcyclopropanecarboxylate

.....is a synthetic pyrethroid insecticide more stable to light than natural PYRETHRINS. Of the four possible isomers only two are primarily responsible for insecticidal activity.

PERMETHRIN is also known as FMC33297, NIA33297, NRDC 143, PP557, SBP 1513, Ambush, Corsair,  Dragnet, Ectiban, Eksmin, Expar, Nix, Perigen, Pounce, Pour-On, Pynosect, Ridect, depending upon how, when, where, and by whom, formulated and/or sold.

PERMETHRIN formulations are toxic to Bees and Fish.

PERMETHRIN, like all synthetic Pyrethroids, has its drawbacks.
All insecticides experience faster breakdown as the temperature rises; however, with families other than Pyrethroids, such as Organophospates and Carbamates,  the chemicals are more toxic to insects at higher temperatures -  as temperatures rise they degrade faster but also kill faster, so they work well at both lower and higher temperatures.

Synthetic Pyrethroids are different in that there toxicity decreases with temperature rise which limits there efficacy. At 30ºC they have very little impact on insects and break down almost immediately.  This will explain why reliance on a synthetic Pyrethroid for structural  Pest Control can bring mixed results.  Inside, Cockroaches like the heat and outside, the walls can get very warm making Spider control problematic.

CAUTION
PERMETHRIN is an irritant to the skin and eyes.
